Foolish

When I was a young boy, I used to have my young boy ways.  I think when we all were younger, we participated in some very foolish, childish, and perhaps to a large degree some dangerous things that now as we have gotten older, we would not even consider doing.  We chalk this up to just being young.  And now that we are more mature, we no longer do these things!  Or do we?

Maybe we no longer do things that could be classified as childish, but we certainly get involved in foolish and dangerous things.  At times we justify these actions as only being part of our job or career.  Or maybe we call them recreation so that we allow ourselves to participate.  Whatever the case may be if we think seriously about them, they are often foolish and dangerous!

First, let me justify my own ramblings in this blog post.  I am not advocating for or against the activities about which I am going to speak.  You will have to determine for yourself how you may view these things.  This is only my opinion and viewpoint.  That being said, let’s take a look at a few things that may fall into the areas that I am talking about.

I read on the Internet the other day (and being on the Internet you know it HAS to be true) that a girl fell off a bridge into some deep, raging waters because she was leaning over the edge of the guardrail trying to get a “super neat” selfie to be able to show her friends what a great vacation she was having!  Fortunately, she was not seriously injured by her foolish and dangerous actions.  I’m certain that incident didn’t make the remainder of her vacation very pleasant.

There are times when parents who feel they are caring for their young child the best they can wind up making some very foolish decisions.  Notice what the article from babygaga.com stated in their article “15 Dumbest Ways Parents Put Their Kids In Danger” (https://www.babygaga.com/15-dumbest-ways-parents-put-their-kids-in-danger/ ) You may never have thought of some of these things, but this article may perhaps open your eyes to some potentially foolish and dangerous things.

Now we could also consider some of the things that we do for recreation or sport.  Again, I want to say that I am not advocating for or against such activities but merely pointing out what, as adults, we may still be doing to put ourselves into foolish and dangerous situations.

Go read the article that was put on the Internet by luxatic.com “The 15 Most Dangerous Sports in the World!” (https://luxatic.com/the-15-most-dangerous-sports-in-the-world/ ).  Why don’t you check out their listing and see how it might impact your life?  Of course, every sport activity to some degree is going to involve a measure of danger.  But you must acknowledge that some sports activities are more dangerous than others!  What do you enjoy as recreation?

The entire purpose of this article has been to make you consider exactly how as an adult you continue to put yourself in those foolish and dangerous situations that you now try to justify as a “normal” part of your life.  It has NOT been to put down or diminish anyone’s need for recreation, but to help you think about the activities that you do involve yourself in.

I think that the apostle Paul expressed it best in 1 Corinthians 13:11 when he wrote: “When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, to think as a child, to reason as a child; but now that I have become a man, I have done away with the traits of a child.”  This should be our view as well.  The only problem?  We’re only human!
